Westlake Homers as 'Wolves Fall to Mets
The SeaWolves got off to a fast start on Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium but could not keep the momentum going as they dropped the series opener to the Mets 7-2.
In the top of the first inning, Eugenio Suarez singled with two outs off of Mets starter Greg Peavey. Aaron Westlake followed and blasted a two-run home run, his second, over the wall in right for a 2-0 lead.
The Mets tied the game in the bottom of the second against Erie starter Wilsen Palacios. Matt Reynolds led off with a single and moved to third on a Travis Taijeron double. With two outs. Darrell Ceciliani singled home the runners, tying the game. Palacios would work the third inning but be lifted and did not factor in the decision.
The Mets took the lead off of Erie reliever Nick Avila in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Avila walked Jayce Boyd and Matt Clark followed with his first home run of the season, giving Binghamton a 4-2 edge.
In the fifth, it was again a two-out run that extended the Mets lead. Xorge Carrillo singled with two outs and was tripled home by Wilfredo Tovar for a 5-2 lead.
Binghamton added runs in the sixth and seventh innings to grow the lead to five and the ‘Wolves would get no closer.
Avila (0-1) took the loss allowing three runs on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts in two innings of work.
Palacios allowed two runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts in the no-decision.
Former SeaWolves pitcher Cody Satterwhite earned the win for the Mets in relief.
The ‘Wolves and Mets meet again on Wednesday night at 6:35.
