Allegheny Gators Football Team of the Week (9-3-17)

Off-Road Express Team of the Week

MEADVILLE, Pa. - Beating rival Thiel College 38-6 to open up the 2017 Division three college football season is a big time statement for the Allegheny Gators.

Junior running back Tyler Balla says, "it's only thirty minutes away from us so it's a short drive over so it's nice to get that first win, especially against them.  They kinda took it to us last year so we kinda returned the favor on them, so it feels good."

Winning their first season opener since 2012, Allegheny entered the Thiel game having won just two games the previous four seasons combined, but head coach B.J. Hammer sees the offseason work showing already.

Hammer says, "our guys worked hard, they earned this one.  I told them it started in January with six AM's and getting after it, but we had a great camp.  I loved the way our upperclassmen matured with our young guys, they earned it.  They did the right things, they did it right and it shows that when you do that that good things happen."

And for the Gators, it's a feeling a long time in the works.

Junior quarterback Logan Lee says, "it's definitely something that I haven't felt since I started as a freshman so it felt really good to get out there tonight."

Congrats to Allegheny football, our Off-Road Express Team of the Week.
