Wolves Win in Walk-off Fashion (5-23-17)

The SeaWolves avenged a tough loss on Monday night with a walk-off win on Tuesday against Harrisburg Senators, 2-1, on Tuesday at UPMC Park.

Erie jumped ahead in the second against Harrisburg starter Derek Eitel. Dominic Ficociello led off with a walk and stole second. He scored on a two-out Kody Eaves base hit for a 1-0 lead.

The SeaWolves held the 1-0 lead for almost the entirety of the game until the top of the ninth inning. Ruben Alaniz walked Yadiel Hernandez with one out and Osvaldo Abreau reached on an Eaves error, pushing the tying run into scoring position. With two outs, Alec Keller singled home Hernandez tying the game.
Erie won the game in the bottom of the ninth against Harrisburg reliever Ryan Brinley. Grayson Greiner doubled with one out and was replaced by a pinch runner Ross Kivett. Kivett moved to third on a fly out from Eaves. A.J. Simcox jumped all over the first pitch from Brinley and lined a game-winning single down the left field line. It was the second walk-off hit of the season for Simcox.

Erie starter Myles Jaye did not factor in the decision but was superb. He tossed six scoreless innings and equaled his career-high with 11 strikeouts.

Alaniz (1-1) earned the win for the SeaWolves and Brinley (2-2) took the loss for the Senators.

The series will continue Wednesday at 11:05  a.m. at UPMC Park. LHP Tyler Alexander (2-3, 4.24 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Austen Williams (1-5, 6.89 ERA). Thursday is a UPMC Health Plan Education Day.
