25 thousand Penelec customers are still without power in the Erie area after nearly five hours in the dark. The heat is believed to have played a major part in the cause of the outage that started around 5:30 Tuesday evening. At this time the direct cause of the outage is unknown and Penelec is working hard to find the cause of the black out. Penelec says they will investigate over the course of the next few days to find out what caused this major outage, their main priority is getting the power restored. Penelec has started rolling outages throughout the area to help those without light. Officials say those who did not have power at 5:30 should have power now, and the rolling outage process may take power away from others. 8,000 in Millcreek are currently without power, 4,550 customers in the city of Erie are without power, nearly 1,500 in Fairview don't have power, 4,235 are without power in Harborcreek. We will have more as it becomes available.
