Autopsy Completed on Body Found

The Erie County Coroner’s Office along with the Crawford County District Attorney’s Office released the details surrounding the cause of death of Gerald VanDyke.

An autopsy on what authorities believe are the remains of VANDYKE was conducted in Erie this morning. VanDyke died as a result of a sharp force injury, (hunting arrow), that ruptured his aorta.

Due to the condition of the victim’s body, additional DNA testing to further assist identification will be conducted on the remains that were located in a steel drum on Saturday September 28th in Crawford County.

Pennsylvania State Police and the Crawford County District Attorney’s Office continue their investigation and processing of evidence related to the case.
