Charges Filed in Cathedral Investigation

The District Attorney of Erie County has notified the Diocese of Erie that two individuals will be charged as a result of the investigation into the finances of St. Peter Cathedral in Erie.

From the Communications Office of the Diocese of Erie:

The District Attorney of Erie County has notified the Diocese of Erie that two individuals will be charged as a result of the investigation into the finances of St. Peter Cathedral in Erie.

The Most Rev. Lawrence T. Persico, Bishop of Erie, ordered a forensic audit of the school and parish finances last spring upon learning of a lien placed against the school in March. At the bishop’s direction, results of the audit were turned over to the district attorney’s office so that the DA could determine the appropriate legal action.

Bishop Persico is grateful for the leadership of District Attorney Jack Daneri and trusts that justice will be served through the court system. The bishop and the Diocese of Erie will have no further comment about the investigation so as not to jeopardize the legal process.
