SEPTEMBER 5, 2013- Rumors swirled over several prisoners being released from jail over an error in child support payments.
Now, a local judge is clearing the air and explaining why some of these offenders are being given a second chance.
Judge John Trucilla says Erie County Prison in conjunction with Family Services Courts have reinstated a Second Chance Program.
That program gives a second chance to parents who were incarcerated for not paying child support.
The program makes offenders find jobs and then pay the child support back on a deadline.
As of today, more than 70 prisoners were released...
Judge Trucilla says if released offenders don't make their payments and fail to find work,
They will head back behind bars.
