SEPTEMBER 30, 2013- The countdown to government shut down is upon us, as the House and Senate have not yet agreed on a spending bill.
The government will begin shutting down at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday if an agreement is not reached.
However, local experts say the outcome of the potential shutdown may not be as bad as you think.
Time is ticking away, as the fiscal year ends Monday....
It all comes down to a deal over a spending bill.
House Representatives want Anti-Obama Care Amendments in the bill.
The Senate says no way...
If the government shuts down, nearly 800 thousand people could be furloughed.
And other agencies could be affected.
Doctor Michael Federici, a Professor of Political Science at Mercyhurst University, says the root of the problem stems from a divide in government... A Republican controlled House and Democrat controlled Senate.
Federici says if a deal is not reached, only less than 25 percent of the federal government could be shut down... And those are the non essential parts.
