Burglars were at work this weekend at more than half a dozen churches in Crawford County. Troopers from the Meadville and Corry barracks investigated the crimes. Troopers say filing cabinets were opened, cash was taken, and envelopes torn open in an apparent search for cash. Police said personal checks, apparently found by the burglars were left strewn about on a desk.

A small safe was stolen from the First Baptist church in Townville. Several bottles of wine were taken from St. Hippolyte's church in East Mead. Anyone with information about church burglaries is asked to contact Pennsylvania State Police.
