Crowds Enjoy Parade of Sails

First day of Tall Ships Festival impresses onlookers from Erie and beyond.
September 5, 2013 - It's a proud moment for the people of Erie: the start of a highly anticipated festival.

"Having something as significant as the Niagara is something really special for Erie: it really puts us on the map," said Michael Bennett of Erie.

Beautiful tall ships from around the world made their way around the bay as part of the parade of sails, kicking off the 2013 Tall Ships Festival.

Tiffany Paga and her mother Dena Salem made the trip from Pittsburgh to experience their first ever tall ships festival, but for mom Dena, who grew up off of Lake Erie in Ohio, this festival is especially close to her heart.

"She was raised on lake Erie so she wanted to see it and we decided to have a girls’ weekend," said Paga.

No matter where you're from, the 2013 festival is sure to be a maritime event to remember.
