Mrs. Vanderwende of Cambridge Springs Elementary School is this week's Golden Apple Award Winner.  She was nominated by Kristen Kargol.

Kristen writes:

My name is Kristen Kargol and I am in the 6th Grade at Cambridge Springs elementary School.  I am writing this letter on behalf of Justin Fuller-Gaines and myself.  You might think this is strange, but this letter about my 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Judy Vanderwende.  Mrs. Vanderwende is an awesome teacher that was so helpful to me.  School was very difficult, and she always took time to work with me and make sure I understood everything.  What is neat about her, she made learning fun.  We would play games and do projects and not even know we were learning.  She cares about her kids even after they leave first grade.  She is always at different school events to support us, even for "her kids" in high school.

Mrs. Vanderwende is involved in organizations for children outside of school, like the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Program.  She is a Big Sister for Justin Fuller-Gaines.  He has not had her for a teacher, but he has known her for a long time and shw has always been there if he had a problem or needed help with assignments.

We both understand this is not the kind of letter you are used to, but Mrs. Vanderwende will be retiring at the end of january and we both want her to know how much she means to us and everyone at Cambridge Springs Elementary.  Please choose Mrs. Judy Vanderwende for a golden Apple Award.  She really deserves it.
