April is Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month which comes days after the CDC released its latest statistics just last week.
April 1, 2014 - April is Autism Awareness month, and with a new spike in autism diagnoses, it may create more awareness for the developmental disability.

According to the CDC, about 1 in every 68 children in the US is diagnosed with autism.

That number is up from 1 in 88 children in 2012.

Officials at the Barber National Institute say they're not surprised with the latest increase.

To be diagnosed on the autism spectrum, kids have to lack in communication, social skills and typical behavior.

According to experts, early detection and better awareness is likely for the increased diagnoses.

Experts say early detection is crucial, and that was the case with Ells Cheeseman's 7-year-old son, Blaize.

He goes to the Barber National Institute and his father says he's seen significant improvement thanks to technology.

A partnership with the University of Notre Dame is making strides through a robot.

The interactive robot is said to be making a difference in behavior of autistic children.
