FNL: Wolves tie for third place; Local softball team comes up short of championship appearance

The SeaWolves, behind yet another strong starting pitching performance, shut out the New Britain Rock Cats 6-0 on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park.
 
The SeaWolves struck first in the bottom of the second. Francisco Martinez led off with a single and stole his team-leading 16th base. With one out, Dixon Machado sent a two-run blast to left for a 2-0 Erie advantage.
 
The ‘Wolves added to the lead in the third. Dean Green and Ramon Cabrera each singled with one out bringing Martinez to the plate. Martinez sent a ball deep in the hole at short, on an errant throw into right, Green scored and both Cabrera and Martinez got into scoring position. Machado followed with a base hit to right, scoring two more runs for a 5-0 lead.
 
In the fourth, Erie completed the night’s scoring. Marcus Lemon led off with a double down the left field line for his second hit of the night. He moved to third on a Devon Travis single and scored on a one-out Green knock.
 
SeaWolves starter Wilsen Palacios (7-4) has brilliant, earning the win. He tossed a season-high seven shutout innings, allowing six hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Palacios has put together three consecutive quality starts.
