March 19th, 2014

Most people have a favorite school teacher from their childhood school years.
Tonight our Golden Apple Award winner has a special bond with the student that nominated her.

Mrs. Linda McElhinny is known as Mrs. Mac to her students in Cambridge Springs. The 5th grade teacher was overwhelmed at being nominated.

Linda McElhinny, Golden Apple Award winner, said: "I'm absolutely speechless ... to loving children."

Mrs. Mac has been in the classroom 30 years. Every one of those years in the Penncrest School District. She always wanted to be a teacher and loves seeing the light bulb come on when children learn.
After three decades, Mrs. Mac lives her passion and teaches her students to find one.

Mrs. McElhinny, "Be passionate about something ... teaching is my passion."

Mary Jo Melvin, PhD, Edinboro University, said: "A lot of people go ... this is her life."

Lou Baxter, yourerie.com, said: "There is a special ... Mrs Mac's grandson."

Mrs. McElhinny, "I have Michael ... love him so much."

Michael says nominating his grandma for this award was easy!

Michael McElhinny, student nominator, said: "I heard it on ... to nominate her, I wrote a letter ... sent it in the mail."

And thanks to that letter... Mrs. Mac is this week's Jet 24, Edinboro University, Golden Apple Award winner.
