Medical Issue Arises At First Block Party

The first block party of the year is a wrap, but after a man had a medical emergency it caused the band to stop performing. Now the Erie Downtown Partnership is taking a look at whether or not there's a need for an increase in first responder presence.

Crowds of people Thursday night saw what appeared to be a man having a seizure at the first block party of the summer at Jerry Uht Park. The venue of this block party raised some challenges for first responders to tend to the man's medical needs.

Usually at Jerry Uht Park Emergycare partners with the Erie County Convention Center Authority to make sure medical personnel is around. But since this was a block party and not a baseball game that same contracted service was not in effect.

Now Erie Downtown Partnership CEO John Buchna tells us this incident has opened their eyes to a possible need for more emergency responders. They would be around for future block parties to increase the feeling of safety at these events. Buchna says he's seen similar kinds of events have an ambulance on site.and he says that may be an idea to look into in the future.
