One of the suspects involved in the kidnapping and assault of two young Amish girls has ties to a local university.

It's a disturbing incident .two young Amish girls were abducted from a roadside stand close to their home in a rural part of upstate New York last Wednesday. New York officials say the girls were dropped off on Thursday miles away from home and the victims of abuse.

The suspects Stephen Howell the Second and Nicole Vaisey were arrested on Friday and now more information about the suspects' past is coming out especially about Vaisey.

Mercyhurst University officials have confirmed that Vaisey graduated in 2011 from the university with a degree in psychology. During her studies, Vaisey did research on this topic -- the effects of viewing sexually suggestive images on rape myth acceptance and the role of physiological arousal.

Now members of the Mercyhurst community and the surrounding area say they are shocked surprised to hear that a Hurst alum is allegedly involved in this incident.
