The SeaWolves won their third straight game as they took down the Reading Fightin Phils 3-2 on Saturday night at Jerry Uht Park.
Erie struck first against Reading starter Jesse Biddle in the last of the third. Jamie Johnson led off with a double and scored on a Ramon Cabrera base hit for a 1-0 lead.
The Fightins struck back in the top of the fifth against Erie starter Warwick Saupold. Edgar Duran led off with a single and Albert Cartwright gave Reading the lead with a two-run home run to left. It was the only mistake Saupold made in the game as he tossed a season-high seven innings.
The ‘Wolves regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Francisco Martinez singled with one out and moved to second on a Jason Krizan walk. The runners advanced to second and third on a groundout bringing Craig Albernaz to the plate. Albernaz grounded to short and beat out an infield single bringing home Martinez. Krizan scored on a throwing error, giving Erie a 3-2 lead.
Jose Valdez came into the game in the eighth after Slade Smith allowed a pair to reach with two outs and recorded the final four outs of the game, earning his fifth save.
Saupold (3-5) earned his first win since April 29 allowing two runs on four this with three walks while equaling a season-high with seven strikeouts.
