The SeaWolves continued their hot play on Sunday afternoon as they took down the Akron RubberDucks 5-2, winning their fourth straight game.

Erie jumped ahead in the first inning against Akron starter Duke von Schamman. Jason Krizan led off the game with a double and moved to third on a Devon Travis knock. Krizan scored on a Marcus Lemon groundout for a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth inning with one out, slugger Steven Moya blasted a solo home run to right, extending the Erie lead to 2-0. The solo shot was his 23rd of the season which ties the left hander for seventh all-time in SeaWolves history.

Erie starter Warwick Saupold tossed six shutout innings but ran into trouble in the seventh when he walked Bryan LaHair and Tony Wolters with one out. The ‘Wolves brought in Slade Smith who gave up a single to Jake Lowery, plating LaHair, making it 2-1.

Von Schamman worked into the eighth inning for the Ducks and retired the first two batters of that inning. Dixon Machado reached on an infield single and Krizan walked putting two on for Travis. The Ducks made a call to the pen and brought in righty Trey Haley. Haley served up a three-run home run to Travis, his sixth and second of the series, giving Erie a 5-1 lead.

Akron threatened on Smith in the bottom of the eighth inning. Cody Ferrell led off and reached on an error. Jordan Smith then singled putting runners on the corners. Smith struck out Francisco Lindor for the first out and gave way to Angel Nesbitt. Nesbitt induced a pop out from Anthony Gallas and a fly out to left from LaHair to end the threat.

Nesbitt allowed a run in the ninth but quieted the Akron threat, earning his third save.

Saupold (6-8) earned the win allowing a run on two hits with four walks and three strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. Saupold is 3-0 with a no-decision in his four starts since returning from the disabled list.
