State Lawmakers Introduce New CRIZ Legislation

Two democratic senators introduced new legislation in Harrisburg with hopes of expanding CRIZ program.
This is a perfect tool to stimulate that growth.
January 15, 2014 - Erie may have missed out on the City Revitalization and Improvement Zone program - known as the CRIZ program - but that chance may come again.

Two state senators introduced legislation to expand the program designed to drive significant economic development and bring people back to cities.

49th district state senator Sean Wiley joined sponsoring democrat senators Judy Schwank and John Blake in their support for the bill.

Wiley says private companies - like Erie's Scott Enterprises - are ready to develop the city, and that the CRIZ would be helpful in doing so.

"They're waiting in the wings to see how this could possibly be part of the equation and as senator Blake had said, this is a perfect tool to stimulate that growth," said Wiley.

Under the new proposal, 15 CRIZ awards in total would be given out between now and 2016.
