The SeaWolves used timely hitting in game two and rode the arms in the bullpen to sweep the doubleheader over the Altoona Curve with a 5-2 final at People’s Natural Gas Field.
Erie jumped ahead in the top of the third inning as Eugenio Suarez belted a two-out, solo home run over the wall in left center off of starter A.J. Morris for a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, Erie added to its lead against reliever Jhonathan Ramos. Dean Green and Craig Albernaz each walked with one out. Corey Jones grounded to first and a throwing error by first baseman Kelson Brown allowed Green to score for a 2-0 lead.
Altoona tied the game against Erie reliever Chad Smith. With two outs, Mel Rojas, Jr. walked and Drew Maggi singled putting a pair on for Andy Vasquez. Vasquez singled home Rojas making it a 2-1 game in favor of Erie. A double steal with Vasquez and Maggi allowed Altoona to tie the game at 2-2.
The ‘Wolves quickly regained the lead in the top of the fifth against Ramos. Jason Krizann led off with a double and stole third. Suarez followed and blasted his second home run of the game. The two-run home run gave Erie a 4-2 lead.
Erie added one more in the sixth against reliever Joan Montero as Krizan brought home Jamie Johnson with a sacrifice fly.
Smith (1-0) earned the win allowing two runs on three hits with a walk and five strikeouts in 2.2 innings.
Ryan Robowski earned his first save tossing 1.1 scoreless frames with a walk and two strikeouts.
Matt Crouse started and threw three shutout innings with a walk and four strikeouts in a no-decision.
