United Refinery To Close For Upgrades

Up to one thousand workers will come to Warren to work on the refinery.
United Refining Company will be shutting down its entire facility for up to 10 weeks for upgrades.

In the past, when upgrades took place, only one half of the plant was shut down at a time. Because of some of the work involved, the entire facility must be taken off line.

For the city of Warren, this shutdown will mean an economic shot in the arm.

800 to 1000 workers and contractors will be in town during the shutdown and that means increased business for restaurants, hotels and motels.

City officials have also designated Betts Park and the Municipal Pool parking lot for parking for the workers. A shuttle will take the workers from the parking lot to the refinery, so there will be no extra traffic on the city streets.

The refinery will begin its shutdown by March 1st and the entire plant will be off line by March 19th.
If all goes according to plan upgrades should be finished by April 19th.
