'Wolves Belt Out 11 and Win Fifth Straight

The SeaWolves won their fifth straight as they won a slugfest 11-9 over the Portland Sea Dogs Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.

The SeaWolves won their fifth straight as they won a slugfest 11-9 over the Portland Sea Dogs Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.
 
Erie jumped ahead in the top of the first against Portland starter Mike Augliera. The ‘Wolves opened the game with four consecutive hits from Jamie Johnson, Jason Krizan, Devon Travis and Steven Moya. Moya’s knock brought home Johnson for a 1-0 lead.
 
The Sea Dogs quickly responded in the last of the first against Erie starter Wilsen Palacios. Deven Marrero doubled and scored on a two-out Stefan Welch single, tying the game. Welch moved to third on a Sean Coyle double and scored in an error making it 2-1 Sea Dogs. Kuery De La Cruz double home Coyle making it 3-1 Portland.
 
The Dogs jumped ahead 5-1 in the second. Bo Greenwell led off and was hit by a pitch and was doubled home by Maerrero. Marrero scored on Blake Swihart double for the four-run lead.
 
In the top of the third, Travis reached on an error with two outs and came home on a Moya double making it a three-run game at 5-2.
 
After the Sea Dogs went back ahead by four Erie would respond in the top of the fourth taking its first lead of the game. Corey Jones led off with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Aaron Westlake walked putting runners on the corner for Craig Albernaz who lifted a sacrifice fly to right, plating Jones making it 6-3. Dixon Machado followed with a knock putting two aboard for Johnson who knocked in a pair with a double. Krizan doubled home Johnson and Travis tripled home Krizan to complete a five-run frame, giving Erie a 7-6 lead.
 
The lead was short lived as the Dogs roared back in the fourth. Swihart led off and belted a solo home run off of reliever Will Startup to straight away center tying the game. Portland added two more off of Startup in the inning to regain the lead at 9-7.
 
In the fifth, Jones led off and reached on a three-base error courtesy of the second baseman Coyle. Albernaz doubled down the right field line, plating Jones making it 9-8.
 
In the sixth, Moya connected on an opposite-field solo home run, his 12th and second in the last two games, tying the game at 9-9.
 
The ‘Wolves regained the lead in the eighth. Jones singled with one out and was doubled over to third by Westlake. With the infield drawn in, Albernaz squeezed home Jones for a 10-9 Erie lead. The RBI for Albernaz was his third of the night. Machado followed with his second hit of the game, an RBI double to make it 11-9.
 
Erie’s final three relievers combined to hold Portland scoreless over the final five innings of the game. Bryan Augenstein (1-1) earned the win allowing one hit with a walk and four strikeouts in three innings.
 
Jose Valdez pitched a scoreless ninth earning his sixth save.
