Wolves fall to Cats; Dirks rehabbing with West Michigan

New Hampshire struck for a run in the top of the first against Erie starter Warwick Saupold. Dalton Pompey led off with a walk, stole second and reached third on an error. He scored on a two-out Cody Aldridge single for a 1-0 lead.

New Hampshire struck for a run in the top of the first against Erie starter Warwick Saupold. Dalton Pompey led off with a walk, stole second and reached third on an error. He scored on a two-out Cody Aldridge single for a 1-0 lead.
 
New Hampshire tacked on another run in the third. Jon Berti led off with a double, advanced to third on a groundout  and scored on an Aldridge base knock to extend the lead to 2-0.
 
In the fourth, the Fisher Cats struck for three additional runs. With runners on first and second with one out, Berti doubled home a run making it 3-0. Matt Newman singled home Pompey and Berti for a 5-0 ‘Cats lead.
The SeaWolves answered in the bottom of the fourth. Devon Travis and Steven Moya each singled with one out putting two on for Dean Green. Green singled home Travis making it 5-1. Moya would later score on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Corey Jones making it 5-2.
 
The Fisher Cats added a run in the sixth. Pompey led off with a base hit, advanced to second a  Berti groundout, and came around to score on a Jones error making it 6-2.
 
Erie again chipped away at the New Hampshire lead in the sixth when Green belted a two-out, solo home run to right making it 6-3. It was Green’s sixth home run and third in the last week. Jones followed with a double and he scored on a Ramon Cabrera base hit making it 6-4. Erie would get no closer.
 
The Cats added an insurance run in the ninth off of reliever Ryan Robowski making it 7-4.
 
Saupold (7-10) took the loss allowing five runs on eight hits with three walks and six strikeouts in four innings.
