The SeaWolves dropped the opening game of a three-game series 6-4 to the Harrisburg Senators on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park.
Erie jumped ahead on Harrisburg starter Omar Poveda in the bottom of the fourth. Corey Jones doubled with one out and scored on a Dean Green opposite-field single for a 1-0 lead. Dixon Machado followed with a two-run home run to left for a 3-0 lead.
The Senators battled back against Erie starter Jeff Ferrell in the top of the sixth. Adrian Sanchez singled, Michael Taylor walked and Caleb Ramsey singled to load the bases with no outs. Cutter Dykstra walked to put the Senators on the board. Ferrell was lifted for Guido Knudson who struck out the next two batters but gave up a game-tying, two-run double to Jason Martinson making it 3-3.
Erie regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Aaron Westlake walked while Green and Machado followed with singles, loading the bases. With two outs, Devon Travis walked, scoring Westlake for a 4-3 lead.
The Senators again loaded the bases in the seventh against Knudson. Brian Jeroloman walked , Sanchez singled and with two outs, Dykstra walked. Matt Skole singled off of reliever Bryan Augenstein, plating a pair of runs for a 5-4 Senators lead. Harrisburg added one more run in the eighth and held on for a 6-4 win over the ‘Wolves.
Ferrell took the no-decision tossing five-plus innings, allowing three runs on five hits with two walks and a season-high six strikeouts.
Knudson (0-2) took the loss allowing two runs on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
