City officials confirm Erie wasn't chosen by Governor Tom Corbett for the CRIZ designation because of a technical issue choosing the sewer authority.

Erie lost out on the City Revitalization and Improvement Zone program to Lancaster and Bethlehem.

City officials received word at the end of last week, saying because they chose the sewer authority as the one to write the bonds, they were disqualified.

Brenda Sandberg, the executive director of the Community and Economic Development, says the city chose the sewer authority because they felt under the legislation they were a perfect fit.

Sandberg says they submitted an application they felt was competitive and met the criteria.

She says they will re-apply for the award that will be given out again in 2016.

State Senator Sean Wiley says it’s possible legislation could bump up the distribution from 2016 to 2015.
