Erie Police Chief: Body Found is Missing Millcreek Teen

Erie Police Chief Randy Bowers confirms the body found near West 19th and Peach Streets is that of Keith McGhee who has been missing since December 31st.
January 2, 2014 - A tragic ending to a New Year’s Eve celebration as the body of a Millcreek teenager is found today after he was last seen with friends at a New Year’s Eve party.

Erie Police Chief Randy Bowers confirmed this afternoon that the body police found is 19-year-old Keith McGhee of Millcreek.

Erie Police issued a missing person report this morning for the 19-year-old who worked at New Motors and went to McDowell High School.

He didn’t show up for work this morning and police say he was last seen around 11:45pm on New Year’s Eve.

He was reported missing to police on Wednesday.

Police say he was at a party and last seen walking in the area of West 20th and Sasafrass Streets.

Erie Police, along with family members, were searching the area today where he was last seen.

His body was discovered, covered with snow, in the area near West 19th and Peach Streets.

The coroner was called to the scene to recover the body that was frozen.

Chief Bowers doesn't suspect foul play was a factor.

A cause of death hasn't been determined.

Coroner Korac Timon says they will decide tomorrow whether or not an autopsy will be conducted on McGhee's body.

Timon says if they do decided to do an autopsy, it wouldn't be done until a few days because of the frozen condition of the body.

Friends tell JET24 Action News they will host an event Saturday, January 4th with all proceeds going to the family to help offset unexpected funeral costs.

More information on the event starting at 4pm at 1505 State Street can be found at this Facebook link:
