Erie School Board Moving Forward with Optimization Plan

School superintendent says he will seek help from lawmakers in Harrisburg to fund project.
November 20, 2013 - Erie superintendent Dr. Jay Badams told board members he is ready to take the next steps in gaining funding for a nearly $300 million renovation project of schools in the district.

There are three different plans, each of which would reconfigure grade levels and cause the closures of some schools.

Badams says the renovation project will address deteriorating school conditions and low enrollment rates, without any cost to taxpayers.

"That was the condition of this project from the beginning: we try to follow the Buffalo model where they were able to renovate the entire district without raising local tax levy. That's what we're trying to do," said Badams.

Badams says he will seek private donors and help from lawmakers in Harrisburg to get this project funded.
