Things are looking up for Erie, according to the 2014 economic forecast presented this morning.
The Manufacturer & Business Association's December Eggs ‘n’ Issues breakfast focused on past, present and the projected future of the economy both nationally and locally. The new data from the Erie Leading Index has been released and signals growth for the Erie economy. Education and healthcare jobs are on the upswing. When it comes to healthcare, the changes could still be problematic because employers are more cautious about hiring. The unemployment rate nationally is slowly coming down, and the same is true for Erie. Coming out of the recession, manufacturing employment has picked up. G.E.'s cutbacks could open up the potential employee pool for other manufacturing jobs, even if they don't pay as much. Experts believe Erie's economy is strong enough to still have growth in the coming year.
