The bats fell silent again on Friday night at The Diamond as the SeaWolves dropped the series opener to the Richmond Flying Squirrels 2-0.
Richmond broke a scoreless tie in the fifth against Erie starter Matt Crouse. Andrew Susac led off with a single and was sacrificed over to second by Ehire Adrianza. With two outs, Javier Herrera singled home Susac for a 1-0 lead.
The Squirrels added to the lead in the seventh. With one out, Susac walked and was doubled over to third by Adrianza. A Ryan Lollis sacrifice fly to right brought home Susac for a 2-0 lead.
The SeaWolves mustered six hits off of the Squirrels trio of Carlos Teller, Omar Javier and Darryl Maday. Richmond walked seven batters in the game but Erie could not take advantage as they were shut out for the second time this season.
Erie has now dropped four straight, their longest losing skid of the season.
Crouse (4-4) allowed two runs on four hits with two walks and a season-high seven strikeouts in a season-best 6.2 innings of work.
