GE Announces Lay-offs in Compliance with WARN Act

It is official, hundreds of GE Transportation employees will receive layoff notices over the next two months.

U.E. Local 506 President Scott Duke got official word from GE Transportation officials that layoffs will begin November 4th.
The WARN notice gives employees a 60 day heads-up of when mass lay-offs will take place.
It's a hard pill to swallow for several GE workers.
GE Transportation announced up to 500 GE Transportation employees will get layoff notices over the next 60 days.
Duke met with GE Transportation executives this afternoon.
GE says the layoffs follow the April 9th announcement of transfer of work from Erie to its plant in Texas.
The WARN notice or Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act is given when a large layoff happens. Workers can receive a variety of benefits including income extension aid, medical benefits and educational assistance.
All of this to prepare workers for job loss and what's next.
GE officials say up to 950 employees will be laid off, but that will be over the next 24 months.
