U.S. Army and Vietnam veteran James Robert Roof, this week's Hometown Hero.

James Robert Roof of Edinboro is a U.S. Army and Vietnam War veteran.  It was a sense of duty to the country that led Jim to volunteer for the army.  He would serve from 1965 to 1967. Going to Vietnam and becoming an Army ranger after the Army first sent him to Germany. 

James Roof says: "All I was doing was border patrol in Germany. I wanted to do more for the country and I knew there was a war going on and I wanted to go be in it."

Jim was shot in Vietnam. He's also a victim of agent orange, which has caused health problems including heart disease, diabetes and kidney failure.  Now 65, he's described as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
