Joel Stewart of Harborcreek is a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He's been in the military more than 20 years, also spending time in the Army reserves and Pennsylvania National Guard.  Joel had been out for about eight years until his oldest son enlisted, that's when he re-enlisted.

Linda Stewart, Joel Stewart's wife says: "His idea was that he would rather fight the war over in the Middle East than to have it show up in the backyard and to have to defend the country in the backyard."

Linda says her husband has a strong sense of loyalty and love for both country and family.  Stationed at the Niagara Falls air force base, this 54-year-old has done two tours in Kuwait during Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.  Air Force Reserve staff sergeant Joel Stewart, this week's Hometown Hero.
