LGBT Community Hosts Candidate Meet & Greet

Prior to fall elections, local LGBT groups host a meet and greet with local candidates to see where they stand on issues affecting gay community.
October 3, 2013 - Pennsylvania legislators are making history, as democrats Steve McCarter and the state's first openly gay legislator Brian Sims, introduced the Pennsylvania Marriage Equality Act in Philadelphia Thursday afternoon.

Locally, the LGBT community hosted a meet and greet right here in Erie Thursday night with local candidates to see where they stand on issues like gay marriage.

But gay marriage isn't the only hot topic at the event: so is House Bill 300, which tackles antidiscrimination, based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

It's a topic that Mike Mehler, president of the Northwest Pennsylvania Pride Alliance says needs to be a priority in the fight for gay rights, even before marriage equality is tackled.
