SEPTEMBER 2, 2013- It was nearly one year ago that Venus Azevedo-Laboda came forward and shared her story of her brother Phillip losing his battle to PTSD.
"Every 63 seconds we are losing a vet and we are losing 2 active duty members a day... And my brother he was an active duty member,” Says Azevedo-Laboda PTSD community activist.
Now, the community activist is hoping you will help "Be the Voice...." and spread the word of how the disorder is affecting military veterans.
The Cellular Connection-A Premium Retailer for Verizon Wireless, has started a campaign to promote PTSD awareness....
"I think everyone has some sort of affiliation or association with in some way and shape or form, but no one digs deep enough to really know what that is,” Says Bob List, Owner Cellular Connection Verizon Wireless.
During the campaign, you can purchase a teal paper ribbon for a dollar from three of the Cellular Connection stores in the area. All funds raised will go back to the Erie Vet Center...
"For any donation a minimum of a dollar. Come up and celebrate us we're gonna run it through whole month of September."
Bob List, the Owner of Cellular Connection, says the campaign is a true representation of the company...
He says his 3 locations even plan to donate a portion of the store's proceeds to the cause.
"I think as long as we make everyone aware of this and community helps... I think we can make this a really big event,” says List.
The official kickoff for the campaign begins tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. At the Cellular Connection Store on Peach Street.
The Erie Vet Center and Erie VA Medical Center will be on hand with resources and counselors for families and veterans.
