Millcreek School district has First Meeting of the Year

Contrary to what the agenda reported, a preliminary budget for the 2014-2015 year was not presented.
January 13, 2014 - Contrary to what was posted on tonight's agenda for the first committee of the whole meeting of the year, a preliminary budget for the upcoming school year was not presented.

Superintendent Bill Hall says the budget recently underwent some changes on the revenue side and because of that, it could not be presented.

However, the budget does have a deadline as to when it must be approved and submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, that’s February 19th, but the committee must approve of it by February 10th.

Another hot topic Monday evening, whether or not the district will seek permission from the state to receive a special exception to Act 1, which sets a maximum tax increase that a school district can levy.

Hall says the district doesn't want to raise taxes, but that it may have to help out with district’s finances.

The deadline to apply for that exception is March 6th.
