AUGUST 16, 2013- Four new born kittens were found stuffed inside zip lock bags and thrown into a garbage can on Erie’s West side Wednesday.
Two of the kittens have since died…. The person who did this is still on the streets.
Animal lover Tammy Wettekin cannot erase the sounds of newborn kittens crying from her head.
"I still hear those kittens crying... I think she turned on video... no, it's not... It's my ears."
As she was going to cut the grass on one of her rental properties in the 1300 block of west 10th street, she heard meows coming from a garbage can.
She looked inside and discovered 4 new born kittens jammed inside a zip lock bag, another tightly sealed zip lock bag placed over that bag.
"The only thing that comes out of my mouth is “Oh my God... Oh my god."
Wettekin immediately grabbed her daughter Jessica...
They placed the kittens in a box and rushed to the ANNA Shelter.
"Kind of just one of those things you don't know what to do but... at the same time do everything you can,” says Jessica Wettekin.
ANNA Shelter officials say the kittens were still wet, soaked in amniotic fluid... born days before they were dumped.
"Kittens were ice cold still had umbilical cords... I think they never got time with mom. Don't know how to suckle," Says Ruth Thompson Carroll, Anna Shelter Director
The Wettekin’s say the most heart wrenching part of this story is the way the kittens were discovered.
"If it would have been left in garbage can would have been better chance... They're in a bag inside a bag... It's pure evil...To kill something like that."
Ruth Thompson of the ANNA Shelter urges pet owners to get their cats spayed and neutered.
“If you don't want kittens, get cat fixed and will help with that but I don't know... I don’t understand people or disregard for life."
Animal cruelty is a summary offense.
That includes a 300 dollar fine and potentially 90 days behind bars...
The 2 remaining kittens are being fostered.
