Local Woman Demands Action Against Local Gas Company

Westgate says she has called National Fuel numerous times, but she says all they do is band-aid the problem...
DECEMBER 27, 2013- A local woman is calling for action after she says a persistent natural gas leak has affected her and her neighbors
Rebecca Westgate and her family built their home on Kline Road in Edinboro nearly 13 years ago....
But Westgate says the past five years have been nothing but headaches… Literally.
The smell of natural gas filled her front yard Thursday, and she's not alone.
Her neighbors are experiencing the same problem.
Westgate says she has called National Fuel numerous times, but she says all they do is band-aid the problem...
She says National Fuel told her that she needs to seek an Act of Congress to get work done...
The last straw came Christmas Eve when her neighbors discovered natural gas in their water.
Friday, National Fuel and the DEP were on scene.
National Fuel tested the service line and found it intact.
They say the NFG gas line has been checked and a minor leak was replaced.
National Fuel says another section is begin checked today and will be repaired if needed.
DEP took a gas sample from the neighbor's water and checked three nearby wells in the area and did not smell any natural gas.
National Fuel officials could not be reached for on-camera interview but they released the following statement.
“Safety is our #1 priority. National Fuel will continue to assist DEP and will take whatever steps necessary to ensure the safety of our customers and our employees.”
The DEP will go out again to check any plugged wells next week.
They say the results will take 30 days to process.
