According to Lieutenant Stan Green, Sugar Ray's located at 1301 State Street was the last bar to have its license revoked on December 6th along with the Metropolitan at 144 West 13th Street. Papa George's at 1023 State Street also had its license revoked on November 22nd.
December 19, 2013 - Three downtown Erie bars have been shut down by the Erie's Nuisance Bar Task Force.

It's the latest effort of the group to address problem bars in the city.

Erie Police say during November and December, three city bars had their liquor license revoked and were deemed nuisance bars.

According to Lieutenant Stan Green, Sugar Ray's located at 1301 State Street was the last bar to have its license revoked on December 6th along with the Metropolitan at 144 West 13th Street.

Papa George's at 1023 State Street also had its license revoked on November 22nd.

Lt. Green says the task force builds a case against the bar based on information including police calls and violations including health or fire.

The group tries to work with the bar before the liquor control board gets involved, but once they do the bar is deemed a nuisance and a hearing takes place in front of the LCB.

Once the establishment has their license removed, they can appeal to try and get it back.

They are able to sell the license but that has to be done before the LCB revokes the license.
