Otters Fall in Saginaw's Home Opener

Curtis Scores in Otters Loss
Paterson Backstops Saginaw to 2-1 Win Over Erie

Saginaw, Mi. – The Otters fired 44 shots at Spirit goaltender Jake
Paterson but were only able to best him once as Saginaw fended off Erie
for a 2-1 victory Wednesday night.

The Otters were missing offensive threats Andre Burakovsky and Stephen
Harper in their lineup, but the firepower that remained could not solve

The opening night of the Dow Event Center saw the Spirit quickly taking
advantage of the crowd noise as Cody Payne scored his fifth of the season
just 47 seconds into the contest. Saginaw put 17 shots on goal in the
first frame and Oscar Dansk kept Erie within one.

The second period started much like the first, with Saginaw controlling
in the early going. That momentum led to a Brandon Prophet point shot
that Kristoff Kontos deflected over the pad of Dansk to make it 2-0

The Otters woke up for the final 30 minutes of the game, putting 34 pucks
at Paterson during that time. It wasn’t until during a power-play at 4:06
that Michael Curtis was able to tip home his second of the year from an
Adam Pelech point shot to bring Erie within one.

With the Dansk out of the net and a 6-on-5 advantage, the Otters put
everything they could at the Saginaw net minder, but Paterson stood tall
holding the 2-1 lead despite multiple Erie chances in the final seconds.

The Otters fall to a 1-1-1 record after their first regulation lost
Wednesday night against Saginaw. Erie Continues their road trip into
Sarnia Friday night, when they’ll face the Sting in a 7 p.m. contest.
