Mississauga, ON – The Erie Otters were firing on all cylinders Monday afternoon as Oscar Dansk recorded his 2nd straight shutout in a 7-0 Canadian Thanksgiving day victory over the Mississauga Steelheads.
The Otters defense held the Steelheads to just 17 shots on goal, making it an easier night for the Swedish net minder who stopped each shot faced. The seven goals scored is the Otters largest margin of victory on the season.
Dane Fox kicked off the scoring just 31 seconds into the game when he rifled a wrist shot over the glove of Mississauga goalie Spencer Martin. Dane Fox wasn’t done in the first period as he blasted home a one-timer on the power play to send the Otters into the first break with a 2-0 lead.
The second period wasn’t much better for Mississauga goaltenders as the Otters got goals 16 seconds apart from Stephen Harper and Joel Wigle. Wigle’s first goal of the season would end Martin’s night between the pipes as Dawson Carty came in for relief. Connor McDavid added his fourth of the season before the second intermission as the Otters took a 5-0 lead into the break.
Erie would get goals from Evans and Betz in third as they fired a total of 33 shots towards Mississauga goalies. The Otters powered on to their fifth straight win by the score of 7-0. Erie will be back at home Friday and Saturday night when the Belleville Bulls and Ottawa 67’s come to town.
