Otters Power Past Petes 6-1
Peterborough, ON – The Erie Otters began a three game road trip Thursday night in Peterborough, where the Otters offense powered them past the Petes 6-1 in the final matchup of the regular season between the two teams.
The Otters spread the Offense around scoring twice in each period. Starting in the first, Adam Pelech notched his eighth of the year. Pelech redirected a Connor Brown pass behind Michael Giugovaz, after Brown was set up by Dane Fox. Fox then extended his goals lead scoring his 32nd of the year, giving the Otters a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
Peterborough would get on the board when Jonatan Tanus beat Devin Williams to the short side, triggering Petes fans to toss their teddy bears onto the ice. The teddy bear toss goal would be the only one the Petes would get behind Williams as he made 23 stops on the way to his 12th win of the season.
Michael Curtis scored his 12th of the year after he finished off a Connor McDavid pass on a three-on-one break. The Otters got their first power play chance of the night with 32 seconds left in the 2nd period. It took only 13 seconds for Dane Fox to score his second of the night with the man advantage, sending the Erie into the break with a 4-1 lead.
The third period saw the Otters with a few power play chances early on, which they used to put the game out of reach. Brendan Gaunce scored his second as an Otter at 2:35. Then Dane Fox completed his second hat trick in three games at 3:02. Erie kept Peterborough off the board the rest of the way, to take the game 6-1.
Dane Fox has scored 11 goals in his last five games. With a four point night, and Connor Brown’s three point night, Fox has tied Brown for the league lead in points with 58. Erie will travel to Ottawa to take on the 67’s Friday night at 7 p.m.
