Otters Set Franchise Record with 11th Straight Win
St. Catharines, Ont. – The Erie Otters set a franchise record Saturday night by winning their 11th game in a row in a 6-0 shutout victory over the Niagara IceDogs.
The previous record of a ten game winning streak was set in 1998 from February 8 to March 3. The Otters 2002 team also matched the ten game streak from February 15 to March 10.
Erie played a much better first period than their last time out against Peterborough as they fired 12 shots on Niagara net minder Christopher Festarini and scoring on three. Connor Brown picked up a pair of goals in the first frame as Jake Evans netted his fourth of the season to lead the Otters to a 3-0 lead into the intermission.
A penalty-laden second period saw the IceDogs with the man advantage four times in the frame, but the top penalty kill unit of the Otters held their ground. Dylan Strome tallied his seconds of the season at 5:15 of the second period. Connor Brown would complete the Otters first hat trick of the season when he picked up his 14th goal of the year on the power play with 28 seconds left in the second period.
Devin Williams would make 28 saves on the way to his second shutout in as many starts. Kyle Pettit scored his first of the year at 19:18 of the third to finish out the 6-0 victory. The Otters turn it around quickly as they’ll take on the London Knights at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
