Erie, Pa. – The Erie Otters stars were on display Saturday evening in a 6-3 victory in their preseason opener over the Niagara IceDogs.
The Otters top line of Andre Burakovsky, Connor McDavid, and Connor Brown recorded a combined 14 points on the evening. McDavid led the way with a goal and five assists for a six point night. Brown added two goals and three assists, while Burakovsky posted two goals, including the game winner, and an assist.
Erie jumped on Niagara early on as Patrick Murphy opened the scoring at 5:47 in the first period. The Otters would score the next four goals to build a 5-0 lead at the end of two periods of play.
Alex Protapovich broke the shutout at 3:22 of the third period. The IceDogs quickly added another goal just 1:31 later to bring Niagara within three.
Connor Brown sealed things with his second goal of game at 9:27 of the third to make the score 6-2. Brook Hiddink added one more for Niagara to make the final score 6-3.
The two teams will meet again Monday in Niagara for a second preseason matchup. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
