Otters Open Erie Insurance Arena with 8-4 Win Over Battalion
Erie, PA – The Erie Otters opened the newly renovated Erie Insurance Arena with an 8-4 victory Saturday night over the North Bay Battalion in the first event to be held at the building.
A four goal third period put the game out of reach as the Otters high powered offense saw 11 players record a point on the night. Andre Burakovsky led the way with a five point night, scoring a goal and adding four assists.
The first period started with North Bay scoring the first goal of the night when Matt MacLeod squeaked a puck by Oscar Dansk. The Otters tied the game up at the 13:13 mark when Connor Brown scored the team’s first power play goal of the night.
The second period saw the two teams put up a combined five goals, with Erie exiting the frame with a 4-3 lead. Dane Fox lit the lamp twice, while Andre Burakovsky added the third Erie goal. Mark Raycroft and Nick Paul scored 38 seconds apart to bring the Battalion within one.
The final 20 minutes of the night was the Otters show to their home fans. Michael Curtis picked up his fourth of the year at 6:59. Jake Evans deflected home his first of the season just 35 seconds later. Connor Brown scored his second of the night and sixth of the year on a wrist shot from the high slot at 9:45 of the third. Brandon Robinson added a power play goal for North Bay at 15:10, but it hardly stopped the Otters offense as Connor McDavid added more insurance with 1:16 remaining in the game.
Oscar Dansk stopped 16 pucks as he went on to win his third game of the season. Four Otters had multi-point games, while Adam Pelech posted a plus-minus of plus 5.
Erie will wait at home until Wednesday for their next opponent, when Owen Sound visits for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
