The SeaWolves fell victim to a strong pitching performance by the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Thursday night at Jerry Uht Park 3-1.
Richmond got on the board in the last of the third against Erie starter Jon Link. With two outs, Ehire Adrianza reached on a James Robbins error and stole second. Jarret Parker followed with a base hit to left, plating Adrianza for a 1-0 lead.
The SeaWolves tied the game in the last of the fourth against Richmond starter Jack Snodgrass. Jamie Johnson led off and was hit by a Jack Snodgrass pitch. Johnson moved to second on a balk and scored on a Hernan Perez base hit to center.
The Flying Squirrels regained the lead in the sixth. Mark Minicozzi led off with a single and was doubled home by Ricky Oropesa making it 2-1 Richmond. Oropesa scored on a two-out Parker double for a 3-1 lead.
Snodgrass (7-3) held the SeaWolves at bay tossing 7.2 innings, allowing a run on four hits with a walk and a career-high eight strikeouts.
Link (0-1) allowed three runs, two earned, on 10 hits with a walk and four strikeouts in seven innings.
The SeaWolves and Flying Squirrels meet in the second game of the series on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park. LHP Matt Crouse (4-6, 4.35 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Carlos Teller (1-3, 3.51 ERA).
