SUGAR PLUMS

"While visions of sugar plums danced in their heads"

Originally, coriander seeds were coated in sugar and eaten...later, they included nuts, dates, and dried fruit rolled into sugar.

Not too very different from the energy bars eaten today!

Ingredients:

2 cups whole almonds, toasted

cup honey

2 teaspoons grated orange zest

1 teaspoons ground cinnamon

teaspoon ground allspice

teaspoon nutmeg

1 cup finely chopped dried apricots (can use any dried fruit)

1 cup finely chopped pitted dates

1 cup powdered sugar

Directions:

     Preheat oven to 400 degrees

Arrange almonds on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for 5-8 minutes until slightly brown.  Remove from oven and cool, then chop finely in a food processor.

In a bowl, combine the honey, orange zest and spices.

Add the apricots, dates and almonds and mix well, either by hand or in food processor.

Roll into small balls and roll in powdered sugar
