As we continue to look back on the Top 10 Stories of 2013, #3 on list is the completion and grand opening of the newly renovated Erie Insurance Arena. The Erie Insurance Arena has transformed, opening to the public in all its renovated glory. The 30-year-old venue that brings in people for both sports and entertainment, underwent a nearly 50 million dollar overhaul, and opened back up to the public in late September. Wider concourses, a bigger lobby, new concession areas and restrooms, more seats and suites, and improved handicap accessibility had people talking. Many Erieites are pleased to see extensive improvements that put the venue on par with others around the nation. The new plush seats are set in a bowl shape and 6,000 fans can be in attendance for sporting events. On October 5th, the Erie Otters were the first to break in the arena. Big acts wasted no time signing on to perform in the newly renovated and spacious arena, now capable of seating nine thousand for concerts. Elton John, the Trans Siberian Orchestra, and the Zac Brown Band have already taken the stage.
