AUGUST 28, 2013- A local hospital is beefing up security to make your emergency room visits safer.
UPMC Hamot has installed a metal detector in the emergency department entrance.
Two security guards are now also stationed at that entrance.
All visitors will have to walk through the detector upon entry.
UPMC Hamot officials say this is a corporate initiative to make the hospital a safer environment.
UPMC Hamot is the first hospital in Erie to implement the detectors.
Hospital officials say in emergency situations people will not have to go through the detector...
However, they may face other security measures.
