Yo Yo Contest Planned for Erie

Saturday November 16 at Erie's Avalon Hotel
September 27, 2013 - The Erie Sports Commission (ESC) is pleased to announce that the 2013 Pennsylvania State Yo-Yo Contest will be held for the first time in Erie on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Avalon Hotel. Locally owned Fairview business YoYoSam, the world’s largest yo-yo store, will host the event.

Event organizers anticipate attracting as many as 100 of the top yo-yo enthusiasts from Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio. Competition will begin 10 a.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m. Free workshops, yo-yo skill demonstrations and other skill toys will take place throughout the day. All ages and ability levels welcome. General admission is free.
“I’m looking forward to resurrecting this event and making it bigger and better than ever,” said Mitch Silver, owner of YoYoSam and organizer of the event. “This event will provide a great opportunity for yo-yo players from the tri-state area and beyond to show off their exceptional talents.”

“The Erie Sports Commission is excited to be involved with this event and bringing it to Erie for the first time,” said Ron Sertz, executive director of the ESC. “This competition will offer great visuals for spectators as participants display their talents in what we expect to be an annual Erie event.”

The event is open to yo-yo players of all ages and will feature five freestyle divisions as well as Sports Ladder and longest sleeper competitions. This event is sanctioned by the American Yo-Yo Association and winners will be seeded at the national competition in Chico, California. Competitors interested in registering for the Pennsylvania State Yo-Yo Contest should visit PAStateYoYo.com or YOYOSAM.com.
