Police were called to the 200 block of West 5th street early this morning for a report of a body buried  in a backyard. The area is behind a home on West 5th street near downtown Erie. Crime tape was wrapped around the area and detectives and students from Mercyhurst  forensics spent the day working at the scene. The area is near Gannon university and the school put out a statement earlier today saying.

“A deceased individual was discovered this morning on West 5th street. Erie police are on location of the on-going investigation and are confident the deceased individual has no relation to the university. There is no safety concern for the campus.”

Erie Police Chief Dan Spizarny says the investigation is just getting underway. Police have charged two suspects with neglect at this time. Elizabeth Taylor, who was the victim’s caregiver, and Antonio McLaurin. Charges include neglect of care to a dependent person, aggravated assault, abuse of a corpse and related charges.
